About AIGHD

What is AIGHD?
The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development is a joint institute of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije University (VU).

AIGHD performs three core functions:

  • a platform for researchers to catalyze scientific excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy development within and across various faculties of the two Amsterdam universities
  • a hub for education – at bachelors, masters and PhD level – across various faculties of the two Amsterdam universities
  • a support facility aimed at integrated management of research and education projects within low- and middle-income countries focused on global health and development

How do we achieve our mission?
AIGHD achieves its mission and vision by accelerating theory into practice. It is not only important to generate research in global health and development, but also to accelerate this research into policy at the local, national, and international levels.

Vision: Equal opportunities for health and well-being for all

Mission: We address challenges in global health and development by conducting collaborative interdisciplinary and intersectoral research, generating insights and solutions, and educating the next generation of global health experts.
